COMPETITION BRIEF

Welcome to the 2nd stage of Autodesk’s #DesignByCapture competition.

In the first stage we asked you to take an object you use for your favorite hobby, and using 3D capture and Autodesk® ReMake, customise it to best suit your needs.

In the 2nd stage of the competition, we want you to improve your object using Autodesk® Fusion 360 (available free here).

This second stage is all about improvements. Just select an object from the library of captures and improve it as you see fit.

It could be a camera you are looking to create a custom mount or case for, or a bike pedal that you want to customise or adapt. Maybe you want to create a new attachment for your bike / helmet or you are a DJ / Gamer looking to customise their headphone shells. The sky's the limit!

Whatever it is, just make sure you select from the the objects above, enhance its design using Fusion 360, optimise for 3D print, and submit using the link below. Make sure to include details showing what the original design was, as well as what you have improved and why.

How to enter - Design: Stage 2

Ok so you've got a great idea and you're all in? Great, here's what you’ll need to do to enter our competition.


Step 1: Select an object you use for your hobby / sport that you think could be improved through ergonomics, performance or customisation.
Step 2: Improve it’s design in Autodesk’s Fusion 360 - You can download a free trial here.
Step 3: Process or fix any holes and optimise for 3D printing.
Step 4: Upload the STL and OBJ file(remember to add a description of the object, its function and what you are looking to improve).
Step 5: Tweet a photo of it to @AutodeskRemake and @MyMiniFactory using the hashtag #designbycapture.

Prizes

The winning submission for this stage will win an awesome HTC Vive VR!.

The user with the best “capture” of an object in the first stage of the competition will win an Oculus Rift!

Lucky runners up will receive a sweet Autodesk ReMake swag bag.

Judging process:

Objects must be submitted by the 2nd of December 2016.

A judging panel chaired by the Autodesk ReMake and Fusion 360 will choose the winners on the 16th December 2016.


Your entries will be judged on the following criteria: Originality of concept, functionality, quality of entry execution (such as rendering), and how well your design fits the competition brief.

About Autodesk Fusion 360

Fusion 360 is a cloud-based 3D CAD, CAM, and CAE platform for product development. It combines industrial and mechanical design, simulation, collaboration, and machining in a single package. The tools in Fusion 360 enable fast and easy exploration of design ideas with an integrated concept-to-production toolset.
Fusion 360 is natively written for both Mac and PC, allowing you to use your preferred OS or both at no additional cost.


Fusion 360 - Top Tips

Step 1: Import a mesh by going to Insert > Insert Mesh rather than opening via Desktop file.
Step 2: Fix any holes and make sure the model is optimised for 3D Printing.
Step 3: Think about the judging critera above when improving your object for the best chances of winning.
Step 4: Visit the Fusion 360 Learning Centre for awesome tutorials, help and support.

Terms of submission

All entries that meet the requirements will be hosted by MyMiniFactory.com. Designs will go live as soon as they are validated by the MMF team. All STL files will be made available to download for free. Ownership of designs will remain with the uploader.


** Individuals must be 18 years old to enter.

** Autodesk contests are never open to citizens or residents of U.S.-embargoed countries.

** Employees and family members of Autodesk, co-sponsors and any judges or prize providers are excluded from eligibility.

** If your design is in multiple parts, please make sure you submit all parts (as STLs zipped into a single file) with instructions or diagrams of how they fit together. If you require your part to be printed in special material - such as NinjaFlex, please let us know in the description.
