Description
Culture: Egyptian Material: Bronze Dims: H 19cm Accession No: MG 006 Current Location: The Hunt Museum, Limerick. This statuette, a standing falcon, is a typical form of the Egyptian God Horus. Hollow eye sockets were for a precious stone or metal inlay. The surface would have been highly polished and possibly overlaid with precious metal. From the seventh-century BC a vast number of bronze figurines of deities were produced in Egypt. Realistic statutory was common in the Late Period and fine metalwork used gold, silver and bronze. Subterranean galleries packed with mummified falcons were found at sites including Saqqara. More.
