I am currently studying computer engineering at the TU Vienna. For me, the exciting part of this faculty is that from programming software to electronics and hardware everything is important. So, to represent this field of study I chose something that enables me to write these words you are reading right know. MOS-FET transistors are the quint essence of nearly every electronic system today.
The model enables you to simulate the switching process of this marvel by hand. You are the software, pulling the input-card through the gate. Your movement is translated into binary as zero and one. Zero and one are represented as voltage levels at the edge of the card. And rising voltage levels create or deflate the conductive zone. A process that revolutionised the electronic industry right in your hands.
As in computer engineering the whole way is important from software down to physics.
Have fun printing and learning :)
P.s. fun fact, in today’s computer systems the green isolation in the pictures would have a height of only a few atoms.
There are no special settings needed to print this thing, all parts are easy-printable without supports.
To assemble it you will need 4 m4 nuts and bolts with a lenght of 10mm, the spring used is 11mm in diameter. The lenght of your spring will depend on its strenght.
