Venice is a magical place so we wanted to create a magical 3D model in honor of this special place. We found the model created by mecanic39 and decided to re-mix it so it would print faster and without supports (we very much dislike supports and attempt to eliminate them on all our models). Thus we cut it into a smaller piece, redesigned it to reduce the need for supports and tried to fix as many non-manifold areas as we could. It still needs some more fixes, as it is not completely watertight but it does print nicely after the slicing software repairs it (in about 45 seconds). Actual size in the photo is 125 x 50 x 40 mm tall.
Prints in about 2 hours at .30 resolution, 3-1/2 hrs at .20, 10% infill. Due to the large footprint, warping of the base can be an issue on printers without a heated bed. We created some low-profile c-clamps that hold the edges down on the build plate (to be posted soon on our website) so they don't curl but you can also use a mix of your glue stick (we like elmers) with a bit of hairspray on top and mix them with your finger or a stiff brush until it is a white slurry and very tacky and no longer wet and slippery. We use this slurry on top of blue tape on many prints that have over 100 mm length or large rectangle base. Our printers with a heated bed usually only need the glue stick. Happy printing.
