The Red Scribe, for competition building is a converted church from Christmas Decorations. the floor is of my own design.
Everyone Was going to do him in red but I thought he looks like a King in Yellow. Meet Hastur the brother of Cthulhu.
The Red scribe, he's walking towards you, slowly, his Prescence ominous and intimidating. His red cloak drags behind him, the blood that soaks it covers the ground in his wake. Why is his cloak so red? Is it just that colour? Or has it been blood stained so many times, it has turned to the crimson colour of blood. - Printed on a Mars 2 Pro with Elegoo Grey Water washable resin. Primed with Colour Forge's Matt black primer, Painted by hand using Vallejo paints and finally coated with Humbrol Acrylic Varnish.

Cultivating Cultist. I wanted to display what I thought The Red Scribe and the other red hooded figures might do in their spare time. I think The Red Scribe is a great model and I had a fun time making this! The walls and floor are made of clay that I rolled with DnD terrain rollers by 3Demon. The other models are Praying Cultist 2 by Bestiarum Miniatures. Bases also by Beastiarum Miniatures. Printed on Creality Halot-One with Elegoo Standard Photopolymer Resin Grey. Painted with Vallejo. Edit 5/10/23 : Added Balrog Lithograph by Syctobit. Lit by a candle behind it to get the correct fire effect.
Behold, the power of the Word! The Red Scribe initiates his new converts • Red Scribe followers from Village's Hope Miniature’ Villagers. Hoods added with Green Stuff. • Braziers and candles from Epic Basing • Basing bits of fire from Goonmaster • Medieval Throne from Winslow • Black speech letters, brazier stands, and halos of fire designed by me in Photoshop and Lychee 3D. • Floor, walls, and stair dais from brown cork board tiles. Lighting airbrushed on walls and floors.

Entry for the Red Scribe Painting Competition The Scene: The Red Scribe is contemplating his upcoming dark deeds at his favorite thinking spot - a large cavern illuminated only by a sea of molten rock. An ominous place befitting of his ominous presence. At his back his loyal pet is awaiting its master's command. The Components: The Red Scribe obviously :) The Dragon is the beautiful "Elder Drake - Gloomhaven proxy" by Axolote Gaming: https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-elder-drake-gloomhaven-proxy-187427 The Base (excluding the rock the dragon is perching upon of course) I've designed myself. It was my first real attempt at 3D sculpting and altough it's far from a professional result, I'm rather happy with it.
My entry for the red scribe painting competition. The red scribe printed in resin and in FDM the base comes from one of Titanforge’s deadly encounters release. The scene: Amidst the desolate pathways of the forsaken city, strides the red scribe, surveying the ruins wrought by his own devices. Clad in scarlet robes that billow in the wind like flames, the scribe ponders in silence, his countenance inscrutable to all who might chance upon him. Whether his heart stirs with remorse for the sacrifices required for his grand ambition, or he revels in a triumphant ecstasy, his emotions remain shrouded in mystery. All that is known is that the red scribe is driven by an unyielding will, a relentless thirst for power and knowledge that knows no bounds. And so, he walks onward, his mind ablaze with plots and schemes, unaware of the tumultuous winds of fate that may yet challenge his ascendancy.
"A new darkness spreads in middle earth.." While the brave adventures celebrate their success saving the elves in the Gray Havens, they still have questions without answers. Who was the red-robed figure that slipped away? What are its goal? Somewhere else in Middle Earth, deep in a long forgotten part of the vast wilderness that few people even know exists, stands a gathering of people clad in red. All watching in silence as red robed figure emerges from the darkness of the old ruins. The Red Scribe... ------------------- The diorama is handmade with some parts printed. Here's my personal rendition of the mysterious and ominous Red Scribe. In order to truly capture his red aura and emanating influence I decided to install a big ol' LED where his face would normally be. In order to do this I hollowed out my model with my printer's slicing software and remixed this hollow 3D model to be able to fit a standard 5mm LED bulb in the place where he would usually have a face or something to that effect. Once the model was fully printed, primed, and painted, I (carefully) installed the LED in his face-hole and it was time for the Scribe's stylin' photoshoot. The first two pictures are my ideas for ideal dioramas that I would have tried to actualize had I the resources/ time available to allot to this project. For one I used a stock photo of the woods and for the other I found a beautiful painting by C. Auzeine. I found them both through a quick online search but I am admittedly unsure of where the original source is for either. Let me know if you do though and I'll be sure to properly credit/ link their page. The next 5 glamour shots of the Red Scribe are supposed to bring the attention to the model itself and focus less on the environment and more on the mood of the character through color and shadow. Kind of like a spooky magazine cover shoot. And lastly, the rest of the pictures are to show the Red Scribe with his "makeup off" so-to-speak, exposed wiring and all. The last four are especially important as they show the full figure in balanced and much more neutral lighting. And with all of that said, that's my entry. Thank you for looking through my pictures, and thank you even more for reading all the way to this part! You're the true winner in the contest of my affection, and I appreciate ya.
The Red Scribe travels through the forest, sucking the life out of all it touches.

Gathering of the Red. Blood Altar by Flesh of Gods Studio
Here is my interpretation. A red silhouette walking through an old ruined bastion. Who is she? I wanted to bring a dark atmosphere but, paradoxically, warm via the light of a torch whose flame seems to be countered by the presence of the character. A frozen scene, which could take place at a given moment, while elsewhere reigns the calm of a distant country or a fierce battle...
Thank you for inspiring this wonderful opportunity,
Here's my take on the red scribe. I imagined this character always plotting in the dark, hidden away somewhere in a dark dungeon.
Scribe and the long Journey
The Red Scribe is walking down the out hall contemplating its next move. The hall is a complete custom design of my own for this project. I created it in Fusion 360 and zBrush.
Red Scribe coming through a marble portal surrounded by marble cloaked statues. Portal and statues from Loot Studios. Terrain and background from xps foam and random flocking materials.
I have never submitted before but my wife dared me to post and ask for your feedback. Thanks for looking.
"In the murkwoods, at the old cemetary which was not often visited by reasonable people, the scribe consulted with spirits disturbed from their slumber. Broken bottles, a shovel left behind, and footsteps told the tale of grave robbers having unearthed this, and other graves, no doubt in search of coin to continue their drunken haze. Evidence notwithstanding, the spirit also told the red scribe the tale of village dregs. They had not only taken coin, but also a magical monocle. The scribe wrote down what he learned of their appearances in his journal, because he would seek out them at the tavern, and the fate of the thieves would be too gruesome to befall anyone innocent." I primed the model gray, and then sprayed it black, and then white, with the zenithal technique. After that, I brushed it with half-dryed army painter speed paint "Slaughter Red" to get a marble-like effect on his robe, and after that I used a mixture of some hand soap, black colour, and water to shade the recesses dark, and then I used vallejo's red paint to try and highlight the protruding ridges. The model of the ghost, and the grave, is designed by "Moonshine Miniatures", a studio that incorporated LED bulbs into their models. They're a studio that has been very good in their communication with me when I've sometimes had a lot of questions. The model of the house is a design of my own, inspired by medieval houses, and swiss beam houses. The base is small, and then the above floors become successively larger, looming over the street. I imagine it is because the tax paid for the land the house is build on, only applies to the bottom floor, and thus you can expand as you go up, making for very dark streets. I have made the house from pizza cardboard, left over plastic from work, insect netting, coffee stirring sticks, XPS foam, spackle, and then I put a christmas LED-string inside of it run by two AA-batteries.
The Red Scribe in his library reading some ancient scrolls with wisdom long forgotten, is this some form of evil plotting or just curiosity? ''From the heights of the Misty Mountains to the depths of Moria the land of Arda has not seen such a foe… or have they? Who is the Red Scribe?'' Entry for the Red Scribe Miniature competition. The figure was printed on a Prusa i3 MK3 S 3+ (0.4mm Nozzle). The Diorama is entirely made out of foam, cardboard, paper, wire and UV-resin.

My Red Scribe in front of a writing and invocation lectern in a ruined temple. Printed with Elegoo Mars 2 Pro, with resin printed scene elements from World Forge Miniatures, Gothic Things and Games Workshop. Scribe Red painted with an ivory light base, followed by a deep red contrast color, and layers of increasingly lighter red and orange to give the tunic a flamboyant effect. Terrain, stones and scenery painted, washed and lighted in order to give the sense of an environment in ruins.

Red scribe at a beautiful place makes it stand out from the crowd
Rajpartap has previously ripped off Ywain's photo of his entry, claiming it as his own. He now did the same with Vincent Allocco's photo, photo-shopping it on different backgrounds. Rajpartap does not even have his own printed copy of the Red Scribe miniature, as he wrote to me that he neither has a 3D printer, nor could afford to purchase a printed copy. He needs to be banned, as he is stealing other entrants views, as well as blatantly cheating.
For this diorama, I envisioned the Red Scribe traversing elven ruins in Mirkwood, I tried to set the scene with some green mossy undertones with lichen and roots overgrowing the long forgotten outpost. The ruined floor is made from extra bathroom tile and I freehanded some elvish designs on and used some greenish glazes to tie them back into the forest floor, the scribe was under lit with some dark purple and I added a sunny yellow for highlights and tried to go for a shimmery velvet look.

My mate and I sat together this weekend for this challenge. We each made our diorama. This one is mine, the base comes from @Honorguard Miniatures and the scared woman from @loot. The story is that the woman is very scared and hiding and the red scribe is moving along the path.
This is my rendition of the red scribe. I started out with a black base, and slowly added layers of red to create depth, and I also wanted to make it stand out by adding texture, making the top of the model have a leathery texture, while it slowly got a wetter texture as it gets closer to the floor. I really like how it turned out.
It might be the last picture taken with my old phone...
Printed round base on DIY FDM printer, the scenic base completely handmade. Background on first pciture created with Leonardo AI. With optional red LED lighting in chest area (pictures 3-5)
Surrounded by a delicate blanket of crimson snow that seeps from lifeless wounds, a figure lays dead, as the Red Scribe moves on. I wanted to do something different, so I went for a winter theme, wanting the red of the Scribe and the blood to pop in contrast to the snow. I sculpted the base by hand using foam-core, pebbles, sculpting mass and texturing materials. The terrain pieces are a combination of pieces we had lying about, some printed, some out of the box (Dungeons and Lasers) and some repainted plastic trees. The dead body in the scene is from Tiny Furniture: https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-dead-soldiers-v-2-harvest-of-war-175572
The indomitable Red Scribe surveys his domain. The windswept dunes of Dolphinus Sandus are his natural habitat. Will his next campaign prove victorious? You decide.
hi am Ilco and This is my entry with the red scribe standing in front while bats fly away behind him. This diorama has a light behind the scribe so the diorama looks good in the dark. the base comes from @Honorguard the bats from @the-printing-goes-ever-on. the reason why the base looks the same as a other entry is because i don't have a printer so he printed the base for him and one for me.
In the cozy confines of the child's room, the Red Scribe stood, a striking figure in his majestic flowing robes. The room was scattered with an assortment of colorful toys, strewn haphazardly across the floor, testaments to the little girl's playful spirit. The crib stood at the center of the room, a sanctuary of soft blankets and plush companions. The little girl wept, her delicate frame shaking with sobs next to her small blackboard, on which she had etched a haunting portrayal of the sinister red figure. I wanted to create a sinister scene, with lots of contrast and details. The Red Scribe was painted with purple tones in the shadows and I tried to add some texture to his robe. The room is made up of items from these great creators: Vae Victis Miniatures, Darkest Desire, STL Miniatures, EC3D and probably more. Thanks for a nice miniature and a fun competition.
My Red Scribe, Printed by my brother on Mars 3.
Submission for the Red Scribe Competition. Title: "Pondering in the Moonlight". My mental image was of the Red Scribe strolling by a stream contemplating his next targets to progress his plans fowards whilst the light of a full moon shone down upon his back, i also added hyper stylised highlighting in the shadows to excenuate the features and folds of fabric, the gauntlets are NMM silver and i even used Black 3.0 under the hood to give it a dark and evil feeling akin to one of the ring wraiths.
Got model at UKGE 2023 as part of painting raffle. Decided to go off-piste with colour scheme :D

Red Scribe by Hobbycrusaider - painting competition entry: The RedScribe appeared in the Great Hall as if from nowhere. Runes, which moved and played like fire, burned eyes if looked at directly. Ringed a swirling portal. Which shimmered on the wall behind this grim apparition. Like some glutenous gell the portal moved like waves over the deepest part of the ocean. But the light was so intense if cast a glow that wrapped around the newly appeared figure. Once everyone had been held captured in silence with its arrival the creature let out an unearthly screech. This was immediately mirrored with the screams and yells of the gathered crowd who turned and fled - each trying to be the first to leave the hall and put distance between themselves and the Red Scribe… ————————————————————————————————— ++++++++++++++++Painting the Red Scribe.++++++++++++++++++++++ I tried to have as many red based pigments on this model as I could to show how different lights would impact on the cloth of it’s robes. In parts I applied blotchy dots of dark base colours over purple, working through lighter layers to approximate a velvety nature to the cloth. On extremities of the strands coming off the hood I painted long lines of colour getting lighter and thinner - in an attempt to make it look hair-like. The front bodice and up to the hollow face i used light yellows mixed in with red and orange to create a more linen look to the material and a higher contrast in the paint volumes helped establish a brighter front facing to the model. The metal hands were done in a green-black base and then painted through various greys up to white - all with a tinge of the original green. This helps give a greater contrast with the red. The tiles and brick work were first dry brushed in greys and glazed with browns. I then used an airbrush to create the blends in the portal and on the stone floor. The glow on the runes was alternating between painting them with a brush and then casting their glow over then with the airbrush. Last of all I brought the base and model together and created the reflective light into the cap at the back - where it faced the glowing portal. ___________________________________________________________________________________ The my base was printed using .stl files sourced from the following: DUNGEON TILES - ROUGH STONE by FIRSTGEAR: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/dungeon-tiles-rough-stone I merged the following files to create the Portal and merged it with the walll from Firstgear’s set: Magic Rune-covered Portal by jpacek: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1515324 Magic Portal Door Terrain Tabletop wargaming D&D FROSTGRAVE PATHFINDER by Obsidian_Prime: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5435291 I photographed this model with my iPhone 13 pro. In the darkness of the study, the old man flipped through the pages of the book laying in from of him. He didn´t know how long he had been sitting here reading, and frankly, he didn´t care. All that was on his mind now was to continue. Continue the work and show everyone. He must show them. Everyone must know. My submission for the Lost Odyssey Red Scribe painting competition. I was inspired by the Lost Odyssey background image which made it look as though the Scribe's hood was glowing from within. So I took the opportunity to try my hand at some Object Source Lighting. Photographed entirely with natural lighting, no-in camera filters or lighting effects were used, and no post -production editing was done. All in-scene lighting was painted by hand, including the OSL and mist effect. All painting was done by me using acrylic craft paints, acrylic inks, and oil paints. The Scribe was printed by a friend using their resin printer. The aforementioned friend also provided me with some of their pre-printed Dead trees by Txarli Factory (https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-dead-trees-266733) printed on their resin printer, and a CIty of Oxwell (set 2) building by Donald Stouffer (https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-city-of-oxwell-2-set-179026) printed on their FDM printer.
"Wandering through the woods for an unknown purpose, the Red Scribe comes to an overlook. Below lies a town, the name unknown. What fate does the Red Scribe contemplate for this idyllic place?" This is my entry for the Lost Odyssey Red Scribe painting competition. With the use of OSL I wanted to portray him as being backlight, this way an air of menace pervades him despite the peaceful scenery. For the Red Scribe, Vallejo acrylic paints were used. All scenery was painted using acrylic craft paint. Pictures taken with a Google Pixel 6. Aside from cropping one photo, no post editing was done. Some lighting was used to accentuate details for the in scenery shots, but the two solo shots were done in natural light. Below is a list of any extra models displayed in the photos. The Red Scribe emerging from his tower
A nameless rumor makes the branches of the trees quiver. A shadow lurks in the dark forest of Mirkwood. In the ancient fortress of Dol Guldur, the Red Scribe prowls between the walls.
With the Red Scribe’s plan in motion and Elron’s twin sons Elladan and Elrohir under his control working on his foul texts. It was soon time to leave Rivendale with his newly collected followers. The Red scribe took a moment to venture into Rivendale whether just to view their work in a different light or maybe infect other writings with there vile corrupted text or maybe leave a further wretched mark. They gaze across the papers that they scatter over the moon rune plinth. Not caring for any that they lose to the wind or even the waters for they will find new unsuspecting victims to corrupt and collect to his following. Inspired by the lost odyssey the red scribe full presentation and the reading of the moon rune scene in the hobbit unexpected journey. I had an image in my head of what the Red Scribe might do once they had collected Elrond’s sons and maybe before leaving find a way to leave there corrupted mark further on the place. The Red Scribe departed, leaving a trail of parchment with mysterious writings in his wake. Gazebo by 3dpforu
In the labyrinthine shelves of Gondor's grand library, the Red Scribe, robed in crimson, prowled with measured steps. As this shadowed figure traversed the paths of parchment and ink, his followers trailed in his wake, defiling the writings of man with their blasphemous script, each stroke staining the pages with his cursed language. Yet, amidst this eerie desecration, the Red Scribe paused, drawn to a small bronze bust which caught but a moment of the dim lights embrace. It stood ever watchful, a testament to the bygone days - a depiction of the legendary Istari, Gandalf the Grey. And as his followers continued their sinister artistry, the Red Scribe's silent regard lingered upon the statue, his malevolent intent ripening within the dark. Photos of the main angles for this scene. The idea was to have the Red Scribe walk through the ruins of the castle where it resides. Wondering, scheming, waiting. Who really knows? The Red Scribe looks over his sacrificial offerings made by his adoring occult worshippers and is pleased with their efforts. As he stands in his secret chapel, observing the used tools of torture on the table, he decides that maybe now is the time to move his plans forword and make an impact on the inhabitants of Middle Earth. The base is a painted wooden plinth, with carved xps foam forming the stonework and metal charms for the back accents. the cultist models are The praying cultist models in the Rise of the Jailer release by Bestiarum Miniatures, and the table with tools is the Chirurgical table and tools also from Bestiarum Miniatures. All of the items were printed on my Anycubic Photon Mono 4k and primed and painted by me.

On a night unlike any other, when the celestial dance painted the sky with an otherworldly hue, the Red Scribe found himself drawn to the ancient ruins of Dol Guldur. It was a night when the moon burned an eerie green, casting a ghastly glow upon the land and stirring ancient forces. As the Red Scribe made his way through the overgrown foliage surrounding the ruins, a sense of anticipation hung in the air. The shadows seemed to twist and writhe under the green moon's bewitching light, and an unfamiliar energy crackled through the atmosphere. It was a night pregnant with possibility, with secrets waiting to be unveiled. Drawing upon his vast knowledge of ancient and forbidden languages, the Red Scribe began to intone the words of an ancient and dark tongue. His voice resonated with power and authority, each syllable carrying the weight of centuries of sorcery and shadow. The air around him grew heavy, charged with energy. The symbols etched upon the entrance glowed ominously in response to the Red Scribe's invocation. A tremor ran through the very foundations of the ruins, as if the spirits of Dol Guldur themselves stirred in anticipation. As the Red Scribe continued to weave the eldritch incantation, the archway shuddered, ancient mechanisms grinding into motion. Stone scraped against stone, and with a thunderous groan, the entrance creaked open, revealing a path leading into the heart of darkness. Most details of the base are made from foam, plasticard and greenstuff. The columns are 3d printed. I took this column stl as model : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5376896 But I remade most of it (mostly for changing the blocks elements on the center) on fusion 360

We´re finding this cunning villain when he has managed to reach the very bottom of the forgotten labyrinth. After a long search in dungeons and subterranean rivers underneath, he has found an ancient Portal of Origin that dates back to the roots of the native civilization on earth. Unfortunately, the portal has been damaged for ages, and its ruins has served for thousands of years as a trap of underground spiders waiting for their next curious victim, which is trying to seek and usurp the epic power of it. This place seems to be frozen in eternity of the universe... _______________ The spider web, like the spider exoskeletons, are real (but no live spiders were killed and used for this minimalist diorama!) The entire "mini-rama" is encased in two-component resin as a form of paperweight. Red scribe is printed from transparent resin and can be backlit as you can see in some of the photos. Unfortunately the capabilities of my camera are limited and I am not a professional. Object of Ruined portal is by Makers Anvil - https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-ruined-portal-119825
At the end of the one shot, the pages written by the scribes thralls were collected and compiled. These writings have been bound by curious scholars and in doing so they have consolidated the Red Scribe's power. As the tome is read, studied and deciphered by the scholars of Middle Earth, his power and influence grows and spreads. Some say the Red Scribe is returning and that he is ever drawn to the book, for once he regains possession of his mysterious text his full power will return also.... The tree and branches, as well as the book are from my random bits collection from old GW kits. The whole things is built in a book shaped 'keepsake box' from the Works.

They face many dangers along the way, from orcs, to the undead, and even the Red Scribe himself. This diorama has been contructed with sytrofoam, cardstock, and plastic bits from various models, including the 3D printed Red Scribe model. The paint scheme features many techniques, including, but not limited to object source lighting, freehand, and copious amounts of weathering effects.

Red Scribe ominously glancing over the fires of Mordor
One night, a lone adventure set up camp next to some ruins, to shelter from the incoming weather. He got his fire burning just as it got dark and began to read some of the books he recovered from his latest venture into the ruins. The fog rolled in and he started to feel a chill. He thought nothing off it and pulled his waist coat tighter and carried on reading. The hairs on the back of his neck pricked up and a sudden feeling of fear washed over him. It felt like someone, or something was watching him. He bolted up and turned, looking all around him….nothing…. Nothing but fog and the crackle of his fire. He sat back down and took a deep breath to calm his nerves. “It’s nothing… I’m just a bit jumpy” he said quietly to himself. His head span round as he heard the rustle of leaves. A flash of red, and then there was nothing….. He picked the wrong place to camp. **************************************** This is my entry for the red scribe painting competition. I printed the Red Scribe, adventurers body, camp fire, bench with books and the logs on the Mars 3 resin printer at my workplace. The ruined stairs were printed on an Ultimaker 3 at work. I've had the STL files for the scenery for a while for my D&D group but so far I've been unable to track down their source to give credit. I will continue trying to find them and update here when I do. The fog effect was by my lovely wife and her vape!

In a dimly lit tomb, the Red Scribe treads with caution as shadows dance along the ancient walls. Adorned in scarlet robes he is guided by flickering torchlight deeper into the tombs depth. This diorama was primarily created through printing on an Ender 3 using PLA , by hand with foam, glue, paint and a few small LED lights. The STL files utilized for the project were freely available on Thingiverse and MyMiniFactory, although the specific links to them are not provided as I am unable to find links to them as I have had the files downloaded for some time.

Inspired by Kate Welch's evocative descriptions of the scribe at the Grey Havens, I wanted to make this as faithful to that vision as possible. The design of the hand sculpted base was taken directly from Alan Lee's gorgeous illustration of the Grey Havens. The Scribe, printed by Only-Games, is decked out in a deep red cloak surrounded but cryptic parchment. The runes on the robe and parchment were meticulously hand painted over the period of two months, with the designs taken from the key art for the Lost Odyssey Red Scribe.
After the unexpected uprising at The Grey Havens, the Red Scribe returned to its inner sanctum library. There it learned how to use the script to be more aggressive in its use. However, even in its most private of sanctuaries, adventures still find a way to interrupt its plans. At least the Red Scribe had time to make its ethereal scripts tangible enough to stop an arrow and entrap a pesky mage! Printed on my Anycubic Vyper. In the depths of a haunted forest, a red-robed sorcerer craves boundless power. He commands his minions to perform a dark ritual, sacrificing innocent souls to fuel the rune stone. As the crimson-clad wizard channels the life force of the sacrifices, the rune stone radiates with an unholy brilliance. With each life taken, the sorcerer's power swells, imbuing him with an unimaginable might. The forest trembles in dread, knowing that the red-robed wizard's insatiable hunger for power will bring about a devastating era of darkness and despair.

Hey and thank you for this funny competition! My entry is not the Red Scribe. It's the Green Scribe. :D The unknown brother of Red Scribe. This Red Scribe is showing his cultists how to sacrifice. You’re on treating the Red Scribe more like a warlock patron, granting powers to his followers to aid in his dark ambitions. Printed on Mars 2 pro in red transparent resin. Primed with airbrush, grey. The model was hollowed out with Meshmixer for the LED placement. The Cultists are from Loot Studios Cult of Hunger. I do not recall where the sacrifice on fire mini came from. Models were painted with Dungeons and Dragons Gale Force Nine paints. Scenery was made by hand from a model train store. The background buildings are from a Kickstarter Lord Cirenegs City Facades. I attempted to make background bland to draw focus to the Red Scribe. Photos of just the Red Scribe without the LED were added to show the painting better.
Hi, so I went with a snow based theme so that the red stood out against the white background. I decided to go with a reasonably plain setting to compliment the model. I painted it to be a darker red at the front as that’s how I imagined it to be in shadow. Also there is something unsettling about a person or entities face or head darkened. I wanted the hood and cloak to be light on one side and darker on the other as if the light hits from one side. Personally I love the view from the rear as it shows the gradient from light to dark. I painted the grave stone with a green hue to give the impression of covered in moss. The pile of skulls why are they there? Could this be an underling of the red scribe doing his bidding for a dark ceremony? I liked the idea of the tree in the piece as they have a history and could have seen many pass by over the years. Also I was somewhat inspired by a real legend of a chained oak in Staffordshire. (Which was used as the back story to Alton Towers theme park ride Hex) The grave stone was a flesh of gods mini and the skulls nova minis. The tree was natural wood and the mound the tree attaches to believe it or not is body filler covered in caster sugar to appear like snow. Sadly no matter how much I’ve tried different light the pictures don’t do justice to how this effect looks to the eye. Finally I really enjoyed this as a project and this was my first attempt at a competition. John.

For seven days, smoke from the White Tree of Minas Ithil wreathed the sky, and sickened all who breathed its scent. Ash makes such wonderful ink, after all. Here comes the red scribe, making their way to the temple of Sauron in Minas Ithil. Behind them is the stump of the great tree, covered in the ash of its branches. Ahead the still smoldering remains of the once proud symbol of the city. Here, in the ashes, will the scribe write the cursed words that will draw others to their Sacred Art. Soon, more red than just blood shall flow from this city. Painted by: Abe Kromer "At the Master's Hand" Tucked away in the small alcove at the base of the volcano... the Red Scribe draws strength and power from the ancient text carved into the stones. The place where it all began, where he first stumbled upon the cursed language. Now a master in the devil's tongue; he lies in wait in the alcove, as his increasing number of followers continue summoning more and more. With each new soul consumed by the cursed language he feels the carvings grow stronger, the power they emit getting more and more intense. Everyone fears the sight of the red robes, knows the name The Red Scribe, and believes him to be the devil incarnate... or is he? Since the first time he stumbled into the alcove he has felt stronger and more powerful... but has never felt less in control.
Cloaked in red this thrall, this Nazgûl, moves almost silently though the veil charming all in sight to their side to document the forbidden words of Mordor to further their dark influence.
The Redscribe origins. In a dark age named the Age of Empire, the Red Scribe was a master of dark magic, far above other member of his old magical order, and he sought to subjugate the civilization to his will, one mind at a time. His word of power, "Wololo," held the key to their doom. As he chanted "Wololo," the air seemed to quiver with an otherworldly energy. His red robe swirled around him like a malevolent cloud. Those who heard the chilling word felt their minds slipping away, falling under the spell of The Red Scribe. One by one, the people of the once-thriving civilization turned, their eyes now glazed and void of emotion. They became mere puppets under The Red Scribe's command, executing his will without question. Their cities now belonged to him, their armies bent to his service. Yeah so it is a fun project I add to the contest in addition to my most serious one. The Red Scribe power description really scream Age of Empire Wololo spell to me and I wanted to put this pun into life. Nobody dares to walk in the shadows of the looming abandoned Gothic cathedral at the foot of Dol Guldur anymore. The magic is strong in this ancient place and keeps away the pure-hearted. Only a hooded figure dressed in a dark red cloak entirely covered with flaming magical runes walks into it to perform long-forgotten rituals. Those who dare to pass the staring gargoyles and the tall oak wood doors might be able to be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a magical crystal ball (a Palantir perhaps?) and to hear some of the words intoned by the Red Scribe, before falling into the darkness. At each word and precise movement of the Red Scribe, the stained-glass windows seem to come alive, their colours dancing and swirling, and the light they cast mixed with the glowing magic from the crystal ball. The gargoyles atop the walls shift slightly, their stone eyes gleaming with an inner fire as if awakened from a deep sleep. With a whispered last word, the enchantment is completed. A burst of crimson energy erupts from the hands and the magic item, reaching for the sky. The altar responds to the magic's call. Ancient runes etched into the stone begin to glow, and the very essence of the cathedral resonates with the scribe's spell. This is how I envisioned the Red Scribe and how I decided to participate in the Red Scribe painting contest. The basing of the entire diorama has been made by me, as well as the tree at the back of the cathedral. The building is a masterpiece from Loot Studios from the “Cult Of Hunger January 2022” release. I painted everything with acrylic colours from 4 different brands, Vallejo, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and Tamiya. I used Airbrush and different brushes. Many, many brushes! Let me know in the comments what you think of my work and I hope you enjoyed scrolling through the pictures. Cheers, River Cross Diorama

Wandering the deep forest of the shire, the red scribe is watched by the Rangers of Hobbiton, a clandestine group influenced by the tales of Strider. Three of them stalk the mysterious stranger as he roams a familiar trail, the site of a fateful encounter for some other Hobbits many years ago. A flock of four ravens caw from the trees as the fog rolls in. Even the ancient trees, the former friends of the ents, turn their faces to see this new comer. What trouble does he bring to the peaceful shire. Miniatures from Roleplaying & Miniatures, The Printing Goes Ever on, Zabavka Workshop, and Printable Scenery. There are 4 ravens, 3 hobbits, two hidden faces, and a rather surprising skull image, hidden throughout the pictures.
I painted this version of the red scribe with a sort of royal feel in mind, using different shades of red with bright gold detailing. I added some dragonic runes to the gold cloth as well to give him a bit more of a magic sorcerer feel too. The terrain was provided to me by my mentor, user WildRabbit here on the site. It was made from several things he found at a yard sale and some real seagull bones he found on the beach. The remaining miniatures were also provided by him. they were done in speedpaints and were made with STL's he already had, so i don't know where they are from. The actual painting for this entry was done by me.

You're walking through the forest, pitch black with only slivers of moonlight shining through the branches of dead trees. Suddenly, you emerge from the thick briars into a clearing, and in the middle stands a looming hooded figure, mist swirling around them, the dim light revealing the flowing blood-red robe. A chill runs down your spine as you ready yourself for what is to come. Terrain: Haunted Forest Set by Stormcrow Scenery

"The cloaked figure walks through the ancient forest as pale light filters through the trees. Remnants of the elves linger in the form of ruined monuments, but most life left long ago. Unless you look below. Dark creatures keep watch here and perhaps wait for a new master to command them." My Red Scribe was printed in resin on the Elegoo Saturn 2 and painted using an airbrush and by hand. The base is 33 cm long and 22.5 cm wide. It was carved in foam and later covered in plaster. The background was painted on a piece of wood and attached. The 3 trees and the spider were hand-sculpted in airdrying clay and painted with air brush and with dry brushing. I've used various types of flock and gravels and a spider-web effect for airbrush. The elven statue and two stumps were printed and are created by Loot Studios.

Thus the Scribe traveled north to the Shire, to spread his evil heretical words to the hobbits. The Shire a peaceful land, had not seen such evil since the scouring, but now the rapids of the rivers, the weed on the roads, and the stones would begin to crumble. The Red Scribe was primed with black and a white zenithal highlight. Thereafter it was airbrushed using Army painter's triad airbrush paints. The last high lights and shades were given by brush. The orange runes on the front of his robe were free-handed with orange fluor paint. His hands received a simple dark aluminum paint job. The Diorama is 15 inches (38cm) wide and 14,5 inches (36cm) deep. The doors for the Hobbit holes were provided by @Ertioese on my mini factory. The Diorama is built from xps foam and carved to shape. The Roads were made using cork sheets and a light plaster to slightly fill some of the gaps. They received a few drybrushes of various tones of grey, and lastly a brown wash. The fence and the gates were made from old toothpicks and coffee stir sticks. The fences were then washed in a black and brown wash. The river was painted with airbrush, and filled with dyed epoxy resin. A few critter frogs and fish were handpainted and placed on the diorama before the epoxy pour. These models were provided by Pellinor on my mini factory. A lot of flock and tufts were used to create the grass and flowers.

"In the dim hours of my night's vigil, a foreboding chill gripped my soul. The woodland creatures, once the chorus of the night, were eerily absent, their voices silenced by an unknown terror. The moon, tainted by a malevolent crimson hue, cast a blood-red glow upon the withered trees that seemed drained of life. My path led me to the ancient monastery, a place of solace and wisdom, but what I beheld there was a vision from the darkest of nightmares. Monks and sages, their lifeless forms grotesquely woven into the gnarled trunks and heaped upon the sacred steps, bore witness to an unspeakable atrocity. Among the fallen, I glimpsed familiar faces, but my sorrow was swiftly overshadowed by terror. A towering figure, draped in a cloak as red as the blood that pooled beneath the martyred, stood sentinel. Whatever defenses the monastery once boasted had been effortlessly vanquished by this malevolent entity. My attempts to remain concealed were in vain, for as I cowered, the figure's gaze, cold and unyielding, found me. A paralyzing dread, heavier than any I'd known, seized me. In my cowardice, I fled, abandoning all reason and direction. Now, ensnared in this labyrinthine forest, darkness is my only companion. "It is said that deep beneath the northern mountains, in a long forgotten temple, an ancient and magical tree has been growing for thousands of years. Its sap is said to have such power that it can bring the dying back to the world of the living. According to legends, this tree is in the power of shadows and evil. Death awaits anyone who dares to venture here." Everything in the pictures is hand made by me (XPS foam is the temple and stones and all the tiles, the trees are made using the twisted wire method and polymer mass) except the tufts (Gamers grass brand).

The Red Scribe was printed from Only Games. Walls and floor made with xps foam. Walls were imprinted with a Green Stuff World texture roller, then cut and modified by hand with a knife. Floor was cut by hand. A lot of different paint went into the the walls and floor the ranges include Scake 75 Artisr Color, M. Garahm, Vallejo, and Kimera. Approximately 15 different colors. The vines are spanish moss with birch seeds individually glued on by hand for leaves. The moss is AK Interactive Moss, but glued and given various highlights. It has been 20 long, prosperous, peaceful years since the end of the war of the Ring. Many of the Elves have left for the Grey Havens to sail into Valinor. Not all, but most, of the magic has left the world. We have entered the Age of Men. ~Kate Welch (Lost Odyssey: The Red Scribe) Darkness was the void. In the heart of the Darkness lay the Black of it's spirit. Darkness was spread across the land, once. Black is the banner it rallies behind - but the malevolence of it's core was RED. There was anger, hatred and fury in the RED. Just as the cacophonous dissonance was sown into the Great Music was RED, so too would it stalk the land clad in RED. The RED would take root and usher in the Darkness. The song was to be repeated. All those who saw it would be compelled to. That message would be RED. But soon it must become the Black. Not yet, but soon. It needed power. It needed worship, again. It stops to pause and reflect on it's surroundings. The stark obsidian walls; the weapons and the armor it cannot yet bear the burden of; the orb and the voices that had emanated from it to share the secrets of the world; now propagating it's call to those that could listen. It had felt bound to this small fortress hidden away from the world. It's womb. It's cradle. It's prison. Yes, it had been provided for - not that it needed much. It had been nurtured; had gathered it's strength. At first it was only awareness, the pull it felt to this place. It had felt ....thin..... in the Darkness for so long.... and here - here had been the place in which it felt focused. Where it felt the RED. At least until the moment it had been abruptly cut off from the force that had compelled it into shape. It had witnessed the flare in the sky on the distant horizon, watched as fire rained from the sky and mountains crumbled. It had felt a great emptiness in that moment. Still, it had continued to grow. To gather. To don the robe that would give it presence in this world. It had learned. Of his desires. Of his hatreds. Of the atrocities committed. Of the threats and the perpetrators behind those threats. Of the means to end those threats. It began to formulate. The face of the enemy was known. Now was the time to begin His final ascent and enact vengeance. HE would start with those most deserving. THEY would be 'enlightened' to the truth. It was time, for this place was his prison no longer.... * * * * * * * This is my take on the Red Scribe. I had to answer the question of "Who or What is He?". My fan theory is that as he grew in power, and closer to re-assuming his form, Sauron began the process of gathering the essence of Melkor - the dark lord known as Morgoth - from Arda and the Void where he is contained . Being in an incorporeal state, Sauron could only provide a focal point for Morgoth to arrive at and so had His resurrection temple built, and furnished, for His arrival. Once the Ring was destroyed, Sauron could no longer help facilitate the arrival. This shade remains incomplete, a fraction of it's true self. Through the relics and tomes left behind it has become relatively strong enough with purpose to attempt revenge on the ones that have caused so much grief throughout the ages. It strikes me that a correlation of the 'Return of Morgoth' would explain the reduction of magic in the world - as he gathered his form over the 20 years prior to revealing himself. Drawing portions of his essence from Arda (thus taking magic from the land) could be a possibility. Clad in red robes, it travels the land it inhabits (via Rivendell and then to the Grey Havens) towards the one place it knows it must go - Valinor. The journey shall spread the word of it's resurrection in a language that shall enslave all of Elven-kind to it's purpose. Only then can the true return be complete and Great Music be fully corrupted. This theory, the description of Red Scribe STL being 'unarmored', the 'wraith -like' presence and the events of Lost Odyssey makes me think that it has been temporarily banished back to it's spawning location. Exorcised temporarily by the elves it had enslaved it has returned to the locus of power that helped call it back into the world. Where is it? Perhaps only the adventurous can find it before the Scribe ventures forth again. Perhaps it shall return as something more sinister. Deep within the tunnels of Moria's mineshafts lie hidden chambers filled with ancient evils. Despite the defeat of the infamous Balrog, Durin's Bane, many years ago, these dark corners remain shrouded in mystery and danger. Recently, whispers have spread about a red-robed figure emerging from the depths of Durin's Door, marking the first living soul to escape the accursed mine since the days of the War of the Ring. This figure, now named the "Red Scribe," carries with him an otherworldly aura and a sense of power that leaves little doubt about his intentions. Whether driven by madness or malice, this "Scribe" threatens to awaken the long-slumbering horrors that lay dormant within the darkness below.
In recent weeks, strange individuals known as the "White Scribes" have begun appearing throughout Middle-earth. These mysterious figures appear suddenly in small villages, bustling marketplaces, and remote countryside locations, leaving just as quickly as they arrived. Their presence seems benign enough, but one among them stands apart: a solitary figure draped in a crimson cloak beneath his pristine white garb. This particular White Scribe has been sighted traversing some of the most treacherous locales in Middle-earth - the crumbling stronghold of Orthanc, the shadowy depths of Mirkwood Forest, the cursed city of Minas Morgul, and most recently, the eerie Paths of the Dead within the snow-capped peaks of the White Mountains. Though tales tell us that King Elessar, also known as Aragorn, rallied the undead legions of Dunharrow during the War of the Ring, murmurs persist that not all of these restless souls kept their solemn vow. Amongst these lingering spirits is said to be one who cannot rest - a wraithlike figure forever bound to the earthly realm, seeking redemption or perhaps revenge.

Red Scribe's Corrupted Cathedral My entry for the Red Scribe miniature painting competition
PALLANDO REVEALS HIS NEW COLOURS: Where did the Red Scribe come from? What kind of being is it? Let me tell you my version of the story. Of the five wizards sent out from Valinor to undermine Sauron's influence, three stayed in Middle-earth. Their story is well known and after Sauron was defeated all three of them left Middle-earth in one way or another. The fate of the other two, the Blue Wizards, is not certain, but J.R.R. Tolkien left us some thoughts on that: "I think that they went as emissaries to distant regions, east and south... Missionaries to enemy occupied lands as it were. What success they had I do not know; but I fear that they failed, as Saruman did, though doubtless in different ways; and I suspect they were founders or beginners of secret cults and "magic" traditions that outlasted the fall of Sauron." —J.R.R. Tolkien I think, that it may have went as follows: Pallando travelled with his friend Alatar to distant lands in the dark East, never ceasing to counter Sauron's work everywhere they went. They assumed the guise of two Blue Wizards and the peoples of the East mostly reacted positively to their efforts. They parted ways after some time as there were too many lands to cover and Pallando found himself working alone in strange lands with even stranger civilizations. In his journeys he was exposed to various forms of darkness and evil, but he wasn't as fierce and unrelenting as Alatar the "Darkness-slayer" and with time he started to change under its influence. After centuries with no contact from neither Alatar nor the Valar he finally succumbed and started working towards his own sinister cause. He was not naive though, he and Alatar were both servants of Oromë the Huntsman and Pallando knew that his friend, being more powerful in the ways of the Hunt, will sense the change of his heart sooner or later. The Hunt began and Pallando knew he could not stay in the East as he could not best Alatar. Yet. Then a significant shift in power far to the west happened. He couldn't sense neither the other three Wizards nor Sauron, as if all four Maiar departed Middle-earth. This was a perfect opportunity, a power vacuum, a land ready to be taken as his own. As Alatar closed in on him and was about to unleash his terrible primal fury, Pallando opened a portal to far off lands and finally shed his old appearance to reveal his new colours. "The sacrifice having been taken, the twisted creature recedes back into its pool. With a slow wave of his hand, the hooded figure gestures to underlings waiting in the wings. Terrified to be near the pool for long, they rush in to retrieve what remains of the sacrifice and drag it away, leaving a sanguine trail across the stone floor. The figure simply watches the pool. If the shadows permitted a glimpse of where a face would be, it surely would show a dark grin..." _________________________________________________________________________________________ First time painting miniatures, only got my resin printer a few weeks before this completion was announced, was a lot of fun, and discovered a new hobby as a result! Gonna have to go back and paint all my existing miniatures now! I started by air brushing a black primer, then added a white primer in the direction of a light source to assist with lighting variation. I used a darkened red for the base coat, then layered progressively lighter reds to create depth. The hood and trails I switches to a cooler tone to separate them as they appeared to be different pieces of cloth. I used black on the gauntlets, and dry brushed white for detail on the edges. Finally added a gloss clear coat, but decided I didn't like it so went back over with a matte clear coat which I think looks better with the sort of half way between look. The other miniatures were the same process with their colours, but I added a black wash to the alter and bookcases as the crevices in the stone were hard to make out. The base I painted the crevices with black primer with a brush first, then used several air brush passes of darkened grey primer. I added some darker and lighter tiles to break up the pattern a bit, then added some dark green in places to be moss build up, especially around the pool. Finally added a pool off blood around the stocks and a trail leading away, and added more blood to the crevices nearby. I tried to clear coat the base, but apparently these materials don't work together as it melted the upper layer of the foam, mostly on the floor and stairs section, and ruined the paint. Had to redo the crevices and repaint the whole thing. Decided not to try that again lol _________________________________________________________________________________________ Other miniatures used created by: STL Miniatures - Stocks and alter | Hayland Terrain - Bookcases and chest | Me - Crystal brazier

The orcs have spent their last 20 years leaderless and open to opportunities. The first orc run tavern: "Mug Doom" has been thriving in a place once desolate of any business. The Red Scribe sees a potential mirror self when conjuring a portal spell
The red scribe summoning a portal through which the cursed language whispers through. Everything here was printed with some new resin and painted with folk art acrylic paint from the hobby store. This is the second miniature I've ever made and the first I've ever made a display for so I was pretty much winging it. The background is a matte painting of a forest, The walls and floor are kit bashed 3D models of tiles and doorways. The portal is a image on a cell phone but the light coming off of it is painted in to the scene. For the red scribe itself I decided to go with a blend of red maroon and almost purplish colors for the front since they would be in shadow and for the back it's a similar base but highlighted with a bright red, orange and yellow in their perspective spots where the light would hit the cloak. I decided to mount the red stripe to a summoning circle that was made of transparent red resin to allow for a magical glow effect when light shrines through a similar effect can be seen on this bike in the background as well. The book is being suspended by a clear bit of filament which I was able to edit out to make it look like it's floating. My main idea with this was a more cinematic take where the red scribe would use its book to summon the dimension which it's power hails from and in the process it slowly terraforms its surroundings.. other files used include- necropolis Arch and health Spurs by dutchmogul, spell book by cyphusmaal, and tilestone modular starter set and fantasy war game terrain by sablebadger. A strange viscous pool bubbles out from the cracks of a long-forgotten temple. A figure surfaces, dragging an ethereal robe spun from the night sky. As if tempered by the air of this mortal plain, the robe becomes opaque and takes on a blood-red hue. The being, an ambassador for the great and powerful, continues on its quest. _____________________________________________________________ The 3D Print of the Red Scribe was provided by Only Games: - https://only-games.co/products/the-red-scribe The columns and flora models were acquired from Epic Basing: - https://epicbasing.com/collections/urban-basing-bits/products/13x-classical-columns-resin-basing-bits - https://epicbasing.com/collections/swamp-basing-bits/products/tall-marsh-grass-tufts-resin-hobby-supplies - https://epicbasing.com/collections/jungle-world-basing-bits/products/25x-alocasia-resin-basing-bits

MADNESS OF PRINCE ALPHROS: The Red Scribe started his subtle and covert work once he arrived in Middle-earth. He wanted to gain a foothold in one of the powerful houses of this land. The War of the Ring was still fresh in the memories, he couldn't approach any of the leaders who took part in the fight against Sauron. They still know the smell of Evil and would not be susceptible to his whispers, so this must be a young heir unaware of how the Dark Powers work but old enough to have some influence. The crown princes of Gondor and Rohan were too young but there was an older and ambitious candidate. Prince Alphros, grandson of the famous Imrahil - the twenty-second prince of Dol Amroth and a hero of the War of the Ring. The old prince let his son Elphir rule Dol Amroth and moved to Minas Tirith to serve the King as an advisor, so he wouldn’t be in the way. Young Alphros was still decades away from his turn to rule, but his father already allowed him to stand in for him while he was away. This was a perfect target. After some time, rumors about prince Alphros started to spread in the marble halls of Dol Amroth. They said that the young prince was seen with a robed, sinister looking figure. Some even said that this person was present in the throne room as if he was the prince’s advisor. Others even claimed that this figure spreads an aura of darkness, that fire turns dark and its light dies out when he is near. The elders began to fear how this could affect the young prince. Will he become violent, mad maybe? What rash decisions can it lead to, could he assail an emissary sent in peace in his own throne room one day? And what could this mean for the future of Gondor? Could this sinister figure lay foundations for the rise of a New Shadow in a hundred years when the likes of good king Elessar won’t be around to fight it? Red Scribe enters in Bag End Our intention was to build an environment that would refine the Lord of the Rings and Tolkyen's work on all sides, where the protagonist to stand out was always the red scribe without neglecting the diorama that accompanies him.
In an inn a dwarf with sunken eyes mutters to himself: "Again that wretched nightmare, vision, agonizing me! Why ancestors ?! WHY ? Is it because I've long left that place?! That's why you sent that red rag to haunt me each night?" The regulars have already grown accustomed to the crazy dwarf however a small group of adventures upon hearing his ramblings took a keen interest in the dwarf. They offered him a beer to in exchange for his story. Without hesitation the drowsy patron guzzled the beer down and started talking to himself once more: "Again that wretched nightmare, vision, agonizing me. A figure draped in red velvet enters a great hall, he enters again and again and again... then he leaves and leaves and leaves. Sometimes I feel it's gaze on me and I hear a slow murmur of song but then I wake in sweat. I've not had a good sleep in ages." The adventures said they were there hunting a red cloaked figure. He goes by the name of The Red Scribe they say and after months of hunting they are finally closer to their mark.
The Red Scribe turned away in the face of yet another disappointment, for the individual couldn't withstand the weight of the knowledge held within the Red Tome. Presently, only the skeletal remains of this individual linger within their confinement, as all else succumbed to consuming flames. Lost in contemplation, the Red Scribe considers their next potential candidate, someone to be embraced into their fold as a fellow Red Scribe. --------- This is both the first ever painting competition I've entered and as well the first ever diorama I've made! This was super fun to paint! This was my first attempt at siring static grass, I think I did pretty well.
I created my idea of the mines of Moria. It was crafted from pink foam and 3d prints of my own design as well as a print of a dwarven statue created by #Darkrealms from myminifactory.com. I was going for the idea that the Red Scribe has exited the mines and what he did inside the mines is unknown. But there is some corruption that he did.
The Red Scribe stands surrounded by discarded books and scrolls. The destroyed bell lays broken on the ground after it was silenced by his wrath. He silently fumes and plots his next move… This is the first time I painted minis and terrain, so I learned a lot in the process. I printed, filed, clipped, sanded, primed, sanded, and then fixed things I broke along the way. I then primed again, sanded again, and then watched a ton of videos on how to use an airbrush, dry brush, and finish minis and terrain. I used acrylic inks, acrylic paints, and antique gold paste. I did (lots of) base layers with the airbrush and then the final details by hand. The books (except the paper ones), scrolls, and stone floor are made of modeling clay. I have a lot of other photos but they are stalling when uploading for some reason. Lost Odyssey Red Scribe, come join us in spreading the word
Red Scribe by Paul Bolger
Get Off My Back! (Ach, rutscht mir doch den Buckel runter!) One day i stumbled upon the Lost Odyssey Live Roleplay Video. And this one had been the one and only live roleplay video EVER to be watched by me from beginning to the end. I had been a fan of Deborah Ann Woll before, and i became a huge fan of Kate Welch. (I almost fell in love. ;) ) Btw., all the participants had been great. The reason to watch it till the end, despite my usual habits. Regarding this competition, i was late to the show. I only learned about it, when i received an email, telling me that the submission had been prolongued until 31. of August. To justify the time and money that had to be spent on such a project, i decided to treat it as an educational project. Although i knew the RedScribe-Story, i really didn´t feel any particular connection to it. And while some ideas during the brainstorming had been related to the story, i eventually decided to go the fun route, instead of staying canonical. Almost every other discarded idea was out of scope (too big in size, stealing too much of the, by the rules requested, attention from the main subject). ------------- Once the idea had settled, i went into DAZ Studio and created several possible iterations. (the kids are based on the genesis8 base figure, using the toon generations addon. the scenery was kitbashed from environment meshes in my library, that i had already purchased sometimes in the past) As these DAZ-meshes were not made to be printed, the final iteration was moved over to blender and made printable. After the first testprint, i realized that i could not squish the RedScribe into place. And these kids were smaller than my fingernail. It was either: re-design or cut the base to make the main protagonist fit without damaging other pieces and then paint the ultra mini kids despite the fact, that i usually paint and create much larger models (see the model behind the picture of the first print) or merge the protagonist with the base and mask and print only the kids separately. After studying the rules over and over again, i found nothing that spoke against merging or scaling and i decided to do the latter. i merged the mask, the RedScribe and the base, and only printed the 3 kids separately. In addition i scaled everything up to 140%. My eyes and hands are not that steady anymore, that i enjoy fiddling with all too tiny things. Anyways... My support work wasnt at its best and not everything came out as good as it could have been. And one of the kids hair had some issues printing. But as i ran low on resin, i decided to work with the imperfect base and fixed the broken hair with a little bit of greenstuff. It wasn´t too bad. Some bad leaves and the like... While printing, i had done some renders with proper lighting to understand the light situation. Although i eventually did not not use them too often and my work is still far away from what i imagine what it should be, the renders were a good overall reference. I painted with a limited palette of oil colours: titanium white - pigment PW6/PW4 Indigo - pigment PB66 + natural burnt umber - pigment PBr7 (as a substitute for black) vanadium yellow deep - pigment PY 184 cadmium red tone - pigment PR242/PV19 cobalt blue deep - pigment PB74 and burnt umber - pigment PBr7 + chromium oxide green deep - pigment PG17 as convenience colours (shortcuts to deepen yellow/red and shortcut to mix greens). While i did not create the scenery from the scratch, but from base meshes that i legally purchased, arranged and altered to my needs, i assume, that i may claim these parts, or lets say the final scenery, to be of my own creation. If anyones feels, i need to add more specific credits than "altered DAZ-Studio-Assets", please let me know and i will gladly comply in timely fashion. I am still a beginner in model-creation, blender, support work and oil-painting and i would probably need to spend another 3 to 4 months to really move the piece to a better level. But it is what it is and i had a lot of fun during this educational project. things i learned: how to create and arrange a scenery in DAZ-Studio and how to set up a particular lighting situation for renders; better to take support work and cut&keying into account when creating the model and while making it printable (although i knew this, i was under time pressure and thought i could do without); manifold does not guarantee an automatic print success (one of the kids hair still failed partly) next time i might consider to paint parts separately - certain parts were really hard to reach with a steady hand - in particular the kids faces were almost impossible to paint properly. should have done it before glueing them on. i just feared, that i would ruin the model/paintjob if i do it afterwards mostly because i did not key them and because oil needs some time to dry tangible(?) If you really managed to read up to this point: thank you for your patience! ;) I hope i could deliver some insight in my thoughts and the overall process of creation. Take care and "thanks a lot" for the competition! ps if people are interested in printing the scenery and trying themselves, please let me know. if there is enough interest, i might be able to find some time and place to share it with you (not the scribe himself though, as that one is not my right to share )
The Red Scripe wandering through a desolate ruin. His Power pulsates in him ready to strike.
Here's the print run and build with the unpainted stuff
High atop the desolate Amon Sûl, a place whispered to be cursed, stood ruins of an ancient tower cloaked in shadows. Legend spoke of an evil red scribe who used to be seen there, tasked with chronicling the world's darkest secrets. It was said that the ink he used was drawn from the very essence of malevolence itself. Travelers dared not approach the tower, for those who did were never seen again. The land surrounding Amon Sûl withered under the scribe's touch, vegetation turned to ash, and even the wind seemed to hush its mournful whispers. One full moon night, a brave soul named Elara ventured to the ruined tower. Driven by an insatiable curiosity, she sought the truth behind the enigmatic scribe. As she ascended the spiraling path, the air grew heavy with foreboding. Stars flickered, casting eerie shadows on the cold stone walls. Upon reaching the hill's pinnacle, Elara discovered a crimson light. In the center, an ominous figure hunched over a parchment, etching sinister runes with blood-red ink. Elara's heart raced, but she steeled herself. "I seek knowledge, not darkness." The scribe cackled, a sound that seemed to emanate from the very walls. "Knowledge and darkness are intertwined, child. To know the truth is to embrace the shadows." As the scribe's words echoed, Elara hesitated, torn between fascination and fear. Could she truly comprehend the secrets he offered? Or would the price be her soul? The scribe's red eyes bore into her, and with a wave of his hand, he extended an inkwell filled with malevolent ink. "Write your name, and the world shall unfold before you." Elara's hand trembled, the weight of her decision heavy upon her. The ink seemed to pulse with a sinister energy, beckoning her closer. And in that moment, amid the ruins of Amon Sûl, Elara made her choice, forever binding her fate to the malevolent secrets held within the tower's crimson walls. The ruins are 3d printed modified base of Dreadwing from Archvillain Games: https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-dreadwing-188911 Everything else is made from sratch using foam, tree bark, tufts, wire (for trees) and little rocks.
In the heart of the ancient Noldor cemetery, a crypt lay untouched for centuries. One fateful night, an evil red scribe ventured into its depths, his purpose a sinister mystery. As he entered, blood-red petals fell from his ink-black cloak, staining the stone floor. Whispers of long gone incantations once again filled the air as the scribe delved deeper, the crypt seemingly alive with malevolence. Candles flickered, casting eerie shadows that danced upon the walls like tortured souls. The scribe's presence awakened dormant spirits, their mournful wails growing louder with each step. In the chamber's heart, he found an ancient tome bound in shadow-hued leather. As he opened it, the crypt trembled, and a chorus of anguished voices echoed through the cold air. The scribe's eyes glowed crimson as he deciphered forbidden knowledge, etching eldritch symbols with ink that seemed to pulse with a life of its own. Completing his task, the scribe departed, leaving behind a trail of blood-red petals. The crypt, once silent, now pulsed with an unsettling energy. The cemetery's flora withered, and an aura of dread settled over the land. None dared enter the crypt after that night, for those who did claimed to hear the voices of the forsaken Noldor, their sorrowful cries a chilling reminder of the scribe's malevolent visit. And as the blood-red petals continued to fall, the crypt's secrets remained locked away, a testament to the darkness that had been awakened in that unholy place. Big crypt was made from Green Stuff World Silicone Moulds. Smaller crypts and some tombstones are from Games Workshop, and some tombstones were made by me from foam.
The Red Scribe was a mysterious figure who emerged from the depths of Middle-earth during a time of great turmoil. With fiery hair and a crimson robe, he possessed a unique ability to transcribe events as they unfolded, capturing the essence of both heroic triumphs and tragic losses. Legend had it that he was a scholar from a forgotten realm, bestowed with ancient knowledge that allowed him to observe the threads of fate. The Red Scribe wandered the land, chronicling the struggles of races and kingdoms, hoping that his recorded stories would provide wisdom and guidance to those who came after. His writings were said to possess an uncanny ability to foretell the future, earning him both reverence and fear from those who sought his insights. Though the true origin of the Red Scribe remained shrouded in mystery, his legacy endured, his words becoming an enduring part of the tapestry of Middle-earth's history.
In the ancient city of Eldoria, the Red Scribe, Aeliana, was famed for her fiery red hair and insatiable curiosity. Obsessed with the Crimson Quill's mythical power to rewrite destinies, she ventured deep into hidden realms. Hesitating before the quill's might, she chose wisdom over recklessness. Emerging as the Red Scribe, she chronicled history to caution against unbridled ambition. Her legacy endured, a reminder that true understanding comes not just from wielding power, but from recognizing its consequences.
