3DPIA Hexagonal Protolabs Trophy
3DPIA Hexagonal Protolabs Trophy

I created this model for the 3D Printing Industry Awards 2018 Official Trophy 3D Design Competition. I started procedurally synthesizing patterns by tessellating planes in various ways. I created latticework from these designs by deriving boolean operands from them. I then arranged them into a hexagonal footprint and added some internal components. The footprint of the trophy is inspired by Protolabs' logo, commemorating their sponsorship of the awards. The monolithic structures inside the lattice "cage" I textured in the style of the official logo for the 3D Printing Industry Awards which I found on 3dprintingindustry.com. The renders I have provided do not show this well, as I am inexperienced with 3D graphics materials. I apologise for the lack of clarity.
This model was designed to be printed with an SLA printer. It features internal structures which can be personalised if desired - I have provided a blank version of the model and also one with some sample text featuring the 3D Printing Industry Awards logos. It features filigree latticework which at the original scale does not go below 0.15mm in width.
I went with a contrasting transparent/translucent material appearance, although this could be changed in the final design.
I have retained all source files. Should they be required, I can provide them on request.
Thank you very much for hosting this competition. I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in it.
Designed to be printed with an SLA printer without supports.
